INTERNATIONAL
FAS AWARENESS DAY
September 9th - Every Year
Each year on September 9th, at 9:09 am, you may hear bells ringing. This International FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) is to alert you to the dangers of the unborn which are caused when pregnant women drink!
The bell idea was chosen because there is a purity about bells that reminds us of the innocence of children. Bells are also historically associated with warnings, alarms, marking important moments, and simply appealing for the joy of connecting with the community. FAS Day is all of these things.
On the Ninth minute of the Ninth hour on the Ninth day of the Ninth month each year since 1999 Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Awareness Day is celebrated. This is to make everyone aware of the desperate plight of individuals with FASD and of the heartache felt by their families.
We of the Canadian Woman's Christian Temperance Union, welcome you to join the worldwide alliance in sounding the alarm about the dangers of women drinking alcohol during the nine months of pregnancy. Please join people all over the world in ringing your hand bells at this time.
